The budget is $4,000 to get my A6 right where I want it. I’m not doing this as a long term financial investment, instead I’m doing it because it puts a smile on my face. That’s what building a car is all about...
Wheels, coilovers, exhaust and a few things inbetween are first on the list. I’m not going to dive into performance oriented mods quite yet, because I’d prefer it if my turbos didn’t grenade themselves for the time being.

The lack of clean Allroads led me to a super clean A6.

Before the D3 A8, I think the A6/Allroad had the best Audi interior during that late 90 - early 2000 era. The metal treatments around the vents and that contrasting wood just look so good to me.

It’s deffinately higher quality than the interiors were in the late 90’s.
The best way of describing it is a combination of the B5 A4 interior and the B7 A4 interior with a bunch of extra stuff.

I recommend a JH Motorsports “Solid Shifter”. Not too bad of an install, and I liked the feel a lot better in my allroad.

Oh look, a Civic with leather.

and AWD :)

10/10 would not buy.

I like the RL, but it was not worth the 50 grand price tag when it was new.

Lol the turbos wont grenade! Just dont needlessly abuse it. My avant was a stage +2 that had been tuned for over 100k miles, still ran like a champ lol.

That’s good to hear, haha.
I drive very calmly normally and I’m not ashamed that I granny shift. Every once and a while I’ll conservatively romp it sometimes though.
The PO literally had records of changing the oil every 2,000 miles, which I hope will prolong the life of them.

How’d you guess?
![]() 09/10/2015 at 21:41 |

Excited to see the progress. The exhaust is important cause they sound so nice when opened up.
![]() 09/10/2015 at 21:45 |

10/10 would buy for under $5K and use as daily beater. Because luxury Civic.

On sunny days, that Quattro badge reflects the sun right in your eyes. Alng with the shiny trim around the shifter
![]() 09/10/2015 at 21:47 |

Back in its day, the civic with leather beat the passat with leather.

Civics don’t come with V8s.
![]() 09/10/2015 at 22:01 |
|
Well does your A6 have the 4.2?
![]() 09/10/2015 at 22:05 |
|
Civics also don’t come with twin turbo V6 engines.
![]() 09/10/2015 at 22:12 |
|
You are right. They come with more powerful NA V6s.
![]() 09/10/2015 at 22:13 |

Yet the A6 is still faster to 60...
![]() 09/10/2015 at 22:36 |

Only with le manuel.

please dont black out the badges and plastidip the wheels and put a dope sticker in the windows.

$4000 or less is what I usually pay for an entire car, certified and e-tested.
![]() 09/10/2015 at 23:14 |

You just listed everything I dislike.
Except I like black wheels, because they hide brake dust.

More of an Accord with leather and AWD.

good. there are so many flat biller bros round these parts that step out of their cars like they are the cooolest crap on the block.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 10:19 |

Yea you should be fine. Like I said in one of our previous conversations; install an external oil cooler. The 2.7 suffers from heat the most, anything to keep temps down goes a very long way.
On my b5, with a 13 row mocal cooler my temps were 225 after some hard mountain runs, but once I would let off and relax it would drop back down to a confortable 205-210 with in 5-10min. This also helped keep the coolant temp lower too, since the stock water/oil cooler was nolonger managing all of the oils heat. In the end It was really just helping get the oil up to temp, at which point the sandwich plate would take over and send all the oil out to the cooler.
Also Get a lower temp switch for the after run coolant pump, think of it as insurance.

Did you let it warm up/cool down after drives?
![]() 09/11/2015 at 16:13 |
|
Not at all really. For warm up, I would only let it sit for a minute or so before taking off, and that was during the winter only to get the heat to come on. As for cooling down, If anything I just took it easy when I was within a mile or so of my house.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 16:24 |
|
Ah, that would make sense. I’ve been letting it warm up and cool down for about 30 seconds at the beginning and end of every drive. I’ve got a short, surface street commute so I’m very light on the car during that.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 16:32 |
|
Haha, its funny how the forums scare people. You will see, they’re a bit hardier than you think. As long as you’re not driving it like Hammy on a hot lap, no need to go over board, 30 sec is perfect. Deff get a lower temp switch though. (If you really want to know how the car’s doing send the oil out for testing, anything else is just speculation)
![]() 09/11/2015 at 16:39 |
|
They do tend to have that kind of effect, haha.
I’m not sold on the lower temp switch though, when would I use it?
![]() 09/11/2015 at 16:49 |
|
It just kicks on the After-run coolant pump sooner. OEM threshold is 240F, and the lower temp switch comes on at 198F. Both keep the pump running till the temp goes below their respective thresholds.

Thanks, I’ll stick that on my list!
![]() 09/11/2015 at 16:56 |

NP, I loved the 2.7, did a lot of tinkering on it to improve performance and, most importantly, reliability.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 17:03 |
|
Nice!
I’m going to grab some wheels and coilovers pretty soon. I’m thinking of 5 spoke S-Line B7 wheels, but the fitment is too complicated for me and the C5 A6 section on AZ is dead as dead can be.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:02 |

God damn, that’s fucking sexy as hell. I does want.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:04 |
|
I’ve gotten 5.9 as my 0-60 with the A6.
It’s .1 second quicker with automatic transmission. 6.5 for the A6 and 6.6 for the Honda Civic. So ha, take that.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:06 |
|
Not my crowd...
I dislike stance and I fit in better with the slightly older Audi enthusiasts. The ones that go for high performance and subtle exterior modifications. Also the ones that have large budgets, which I don’t really have much of.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:07 |

It’s not a short shifter is it?
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:07 |

Bro, it is cheesy bread.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:07 |

Do you have the same trim?
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:33 |
|
Dash trim, yes. Model trim? No, my mom’s is a 3.0.
The dash trim in my A8 is slightly different.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:37 |

The red Avant right?
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:38 |
|
Right. Unfortunately of late she has stopped caring/having the funds to keep up the car, so it’s in rough shape.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:40 |
|
Ouch, has it been reliable?
How rough is it?
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:43 |
|
Fairly reliable, considering how she’s maintained it of late. Front is smashed, paint is scratched and bubbled all over, interior is worn, trim is coming off, many electrical systems don’t work/work intermittently.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 18:45 |
|
That’s a shame, such nice cars when they’re working.
How does it drive compared to your A8?
![]() 09/11/2015 at 19:18 |

It shortens the throw by a little, but they actually sell an extension that makes the lever longer, which is interesting. I just liked the more positive feel. It's not just a jacked up lever, it's a real full-on shifter.
